Ayodhya is a popular pilgrimage center on the banks of the Saryu River. It is a popular religious place of Hindus. The city is associated with Lord Rama, who is believed to be the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu. According to the epic Ramayana, the ancient city of Ayodhya was the capital of the Surya dynasty where Lord Rama was born. The entire story of Ramayana revolves around Lord Rama, this epic tells about his 14 years of exile which he lived in the jungles, and after many hardships he returned to his home in Ayodhya on the day of Diwali.
Swargadwar – Near this ghat is the temple of Shri Nageshwar-Nath Mahadev. There is such a description about this temple that Shiva’s idol had installed the idol of Shiva in this temple. There is a temple of Shri Ram Chandra Ji in a street near Nageshwarnath. In a single black stone there is a statue of Ram-Panchayatan.
Fair of Ayodhya – The biggest fair is held here on Sriramnavmi. The second fair is a swing in the Shravan Shukla Paksha for 8-9 days.
Dasharatha Tirtha – The place where the last rites of King Dasharatha were performed. There is a big lake with ghats built around it. There is a temple of Surya Narayana on the west side.
Shri Ram Janmabhoomi – Sri Ram Janmabhoomi is ahead of Kanak Bhavan. There are many ancient temples near the place of birth, Sitarasoi, twenty-four avatars, Kop Bhawan, Ratnasinhasan, Anand Mahal, Rang Mahal, and Sakhi Gopal ji etc.
Hanuman Ghati – This place is in the city about one and a quarter km from the banks of the river Saryu. It is a small fort of Charcot on a high mound. After climbing a lot of steps, one reaches the temple of Shri Hanuman. Here Hanuman ji sits a small idol covered with flowers.
Laxmanghat – There is a five feet high idol of Laxmanji here. This idol was found in front of the tank. It is said that this is where Sri Laxman visited Paramdham.
Kanak Bhavan – It is considered to be the main temple of Ayodhya. It was built by Ayodhya-King. It is called the inner temple of Shri Ram or the palace of Sita ji. The main figure in this is that of Sitaram. The big statue on the throne is in front of Shri Sitaram’s small statue. It is said that Chorti Murtia is ancient.
